In October, Troop 55 took a trip to Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania for a weekend of biking and camping. They were able to use the brand new tents that the troop had just purchased. The weather was rainy but the scouts did a 15 mile bike trip down a mountain and enjoyed the ride and the views.
In November, the scouts assisted the Garden City Community Church at their annual Americana Fair. Scouts cooked hot dogs and served cold drinks to attendees. The scouts were a big help in the clean up and breakdown of the event.
The troop went to Schiff Scout Reservation in Wading River for their Annual Thanksgiving Celebration. They learned to prepare and cook a Thanksgiving dinner: mashed potatoes, green beans, cranberries, stuffing, and they cooked a turkey in a garbage can. (Garbage cans were specially prepared and only used for cooking turkeys). Scouts felt garbage can turkeys were the best they have ever eaten. There was extra excitement during the trip as we evacuated the camp site due to tornado warning. Several tornadoes touched down on Long Island that day, but the Scouts managed the weekend safely!
