As we return to church this fall, we would like to share a unique opportunity for all cathedral members to explore service as an acolyte, usher, or lector. Collectively, people who serve in these roles are known as our “liturgical ministers” because each person plays an important part in each of our Sunday liturgies at 8:00am, 9:15am, and 11:15am.
Ushers play an important part in greeting worshippers and organizing the offertory and communion, lectors proclaim the Word of God and lead the prayers of the people, and our acolytes bear processional torches and crosses and assist the clergy in setting the Table.
We would like to invite you to try out service in one or all of these ministries on a one-time basis with “no strings attached.” You can give any one of these ministries a test drive and see if it is really where God is calling you to serve. If it is, great - you will be able to formally join the ministry at the next training session and begin your service. If it’s not for you, there is no long term obligation and you’d be free to explore some other ways to serve.
We will begin scheduling “First Serve” volunteer slots in October, so please email Chris Scott at or Kyle Sabo at for more information.
