On March 5th and 6th, Boy Scout Troop 55 went on a camping trip to Alpine, New Jersey. This was the first trip that the new Boy Scouts could go on. The weather was perfect for the end of winter camping trip. After setting up their campsite, they departed on a 5-mile hike along the Palisades. After eating lunch and getting back from the hike, the boys prepared their own dinner and learned about orienteering. Orienteering is a very important skill for the Boy Scouts to know.
On February 19th, Boy Scouts from Garden City Troop 55 went on a long 10-mile hike along the Appalachian Trail. The weather was very cold, and it was snowing on and off throughout the day. During the hike, the Boy Scouts saw many interesting geological formations that are definitely not found in Garden City. The trail also passed through an old Revolutionary War era iron mine that is slowly disappearing. Even though the Boy Scouts were exhausted at the end of the 10-mile hike, they all enjoyed it.
